We’ve strengthened our hygiene measures to reduce GI and stomach issues:
- We provide hand sanitizer at meal stations.
- We encourage frequent handwashing with safe water (boiled or filtered).
- All drinking water is boiled or purified.
- We train local families on better dishwashing practices and safer food prep (e.g., washing produce with boiled water, careful handling of fresh dairy).
- We recommend travelers bring their own hand wipes or additional sanitizer for personal use and consider being cautious with unfamiliar fresh cheeses if you have a sensitive stomach.
- Each camp or guesthouse has a designated latrine area, and we work with hosts to regularly clean it to the best of local standards.
Despite these precautions, GI issues can still happen in remote environments, so we advise also packing anti-diarrheal meds and staying hydrated.
