Discover Central Asia indigenous & unique mountain sheep Marco Polo distinguished with its huge size and beautiful spiraling horn. The sheep got its name from the 13th-century explorer Marco Polo who mentioned it in his book The Travels of Marco Polo. Now Marco Polo sheep’s horn has become the popular attraction for hunters. Do not miss your chance to spot the wandering mountain sheep in highlands of Pamir while traveling on Pamir Highway.

ITINERARY: Murgab village – Bash Kumboz village – Alichur village

Leave Murgab early morning and head on to Bash Kumboz village, 2 hours. Turn left on main road M41 and follow the unpaved road leading to Bash Kumboz village in a beautiful grassy meadow. You will see shepherd’s yurts in a distance with grazing yaks on the way. Arrival at the village and meet your guide. Drive further into the gorge along the stream. Then hike up to the hill to see if you can see wandering herd of Marco Polo in a distance. Locals promise that you will see it for sure. However, it all depends on weather and other circumstances, so hope for good weather. Walk back to your car and continue your way up to the next village Alichur. Arrival and be accommodated in a homestay.
