Car Rental Kyrgyzstan FAQ
The renter and all approved drivers must be in possession of a full, valid driving license for at least 3 years It is recommended having an official translation of the license in Russian language together with a national driving license. It will help when police stop you or accidents occurs.

Cars to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan need a paper that authorizes a renter/driver to drive. A company makes this document through notary office.

The Insurance is provided for all vehicles.
Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become nullified, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver’s license at the time of the event giving rise to claim, or if the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs or refuses to pass a sobriety check.
We charge a 400 USD as a security deposit. It will returned after the car inspection and there is no damage. We deduct from this amount if there is a damage found with the car on its return or for motoring-related issues, or for missing fuel. The damage constituting more than 400 USD is covered by insurance company and the security deposit (400 USD) will be held as well.
All the cars are based in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyz Republic, so the car pick up and return points are in Bishkek. There are extra charge if the car return at different points than Bishkek. Contact us for car return charges.
If a car breaks down, we will try to fix within 3 hours if there are stations nearby. If no stations, we will send another car. Bad roads in the mountains sometimes cause tire issues, so get some skills how to change tires, please.
Driving is on the right-hand side of the road in Kyrgyzstan, similar to most of Europe and the USA. We rent only left hand cars. However, the right hand cars are also allowed in the country, so you will see locals driving right hand cars.
Use the Maps.ME app for navigating in Kyrgyzstan. It has marked almost all the roads, homestays and yurt camps in the mountains. It works offline as well. After downloading the app, download the countries you travel. Google map is also good, but not good as Maps.Me. Our company can provide you with GPS of main roads and treks upon you request.
Cross border rentals are allowed for our vehicles. It is possible to drive a rental between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. It is easy and simple. Company will make some necessary legal documents that will authorize you to drive the Kyrgyz rental cars in Uzbekistan. Know that the road conditions are far better in Uzbekistan than Kyrgyzstan.
About Tajikistan, the border crossing between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan opened back in July 2023. The road conditions in Tajikistan are worse than Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. You will definitely need 4×4 if your focus is to explore Pamir Highway.

There is only one road toll between Bishkek and Osh cities on the M41 road. The payment is about 50 Kyrgyz soms. You have to have cash with you. Credit cards are not accepted.
Meat is an essential part of Kyrgyz cuisine. All the meals offered in yurts and cafes have beef or mutton. Ask before your order your meal. Here we will list the main dishes of local Kyrgyz cuisine:
Beshbarmak Beshbarmak is the Kyrgyz national dish. It consists of horse meat boiled in its own broth for several hours and served over homemade noodles sprinkled with parsley. Beshbarmak means “Five Fingers” in the Kyrgyz language because the dish is typically eaten with the hands. Of course, you can use spoons.
Dumdama Dumdama is a stew consisting of meat, potatoes, onions, vegetables and sometimes fruits.
Kuurdak Kuurdak is fried beef or mutton with potatoes.
Shashlik A mutton grilled over smoking coals with raw sliced onions out on your table. The meat is usually marinated for hours before cooking. Shashlyk can also be made from beef, chicken, and fish. Each shashlik typically has a fat-to-meat ratio of one-to-one.
Shorpo Shorpo is a meat soup. Sometimes potatoes are put.
Laghman Laghman is a dish consisting of meat, vegetables and pulled noodles by hand. It has some soop in it as well.
Big cities have many restaurants and cafes that serve European, Turkish, and Asian food. However, you should always be cautious if you are planning to drive deep into the mountains. Get some dry food, bottled water and other items since it is difficult to find groceries in the mountains.
Our company can accept online payments on its website. We accept credit cards MasterCard, Visa. Please note, that payments with credit card may require the PIN of the credit card. Do not forget your PIN since we have issues with tourist who forgot their PINs. Payment in cash is possible and can be conducted in USD, Euros or local currency. There is a security deposit of 400 USD charged in advance and returned to your after rental contract is over. A due amount will be deducted if there is a damage in the car. To book the vehicle, we charge 10 % of deposit from total cost. Total rental payment is done before a car is given. No payment is charged if you cancel the car rental contract 24 hours. The 30 % of total cost is charged if you cancel less than 24 hours.
No-show: In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time the, rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.
Some must-visit places reachable by car are located close to the borders. You need to obtain a permit before you go. Making permits takes two to ten days. Therefore, it is highly recommended to take them in advance. Our agency can make it for all the destinations around the country. Here we will list which places you need permit for visiting:

The speed limits are 110km/h on motorways, 90km/h on open roads and between 40km/h and 60km/h in urban areas. There are speed cameras inside and outside Bishkek city. The speed cameras are being installed in and out of Osh city. They have not been activated when we checked last time on January 2023 No speed cameras on other regions in the country. There are speed limit signs on all maintained roads in the country leading to villages or cities. No speed signs after you enter mountains.
We always check the status of car for road speed violation fines on website of road regulation department. One out of three clients often break the speed and other rules. We show them their fines when taking the car back. So, please, be ready to pay your fine if there is one.
